In 1985 our Chairman, Dr. Cletus Babu founded SCAD (Social Change and Development) to help the underprivileged and downtrodden people of Tirunelveli & Tuticorin and to make a difference to the quality of life of the rural poor. With the support of two friends, he set out on a path to uplift the poor. With limited funds and the belief that people should be empowered to create their own development, Dr. Cletus Babu was innovative in creating ownership and independence amongst the people by joining them together and encouraging them to support each other.
Dr. Cletus Babu has been hailed as one of the most influential Catholics in Southern India by the CONVERGE Project of the European Union. SCAD is now a thriving NGO in Tamil Nadu, Southern India, and helps over 300,000 people in two districts towards freeing themselves from a life of grinding poverty and debt to one of hope and opportunity. The Educational arm has now grown to 16 educations institutions to include Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, ITIs, Schools, Teachers’ Training Colleges and Schools for Children with Special Needs. Today, SCAD is hailed as one of the leading educational groups in the country. The SCAD Group of Institution produced thousands of students who are successful professionals and academicians with a difference.
